Bacteria are not always harmful. These microorganisms often become assistants to scientists in creating useful products in all areas of the state’s economy, be it industry, medicine, the ecosphere, agriculture and others. Over the half-century history of the institution — which is how long the Institute of Microbiology under Belarus’ National Academy of Sciences has been operating — its scientists have not only formed a unique national fund of microbial biological resources, but have also learned to use the capabilities of microorganisms in the interests of the country.

According to the latest information from the Pripyatsky National Park, the European wildcat has returned to Belarus after almost a hundred years. We have learned about the readiness of Belarusian nature for the return of such once old inhabitants from Pavel Veligurov, a senior researcher at the Scientific and Practical Centre for Bioresources under Belarus‘ National Academy of Sciences.

The first five prototypes of Belarusian electric cars are undergoing technical testing and receiving commercial evaluations. According to Aleksandr Belevich, Deputy General Director for Highly Automated Electric Transport at the Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering under Belarus’ National Academy of Sciences, among the components that contribute the most to the scientific complexity and cost of this vehicle are the electric battery and traction electric drive.

Yelena Presnyakova, Head of the Centre for Innovation and Investment Policy at the Institute of Economics under Belarus’ National Academy of Sciences (NAS), has shared her opinion on what science will be like in the near future, how to improve its practical orientation, and what tasks need to be solved.
